Posterous theme by Cory Watilo

Much ado about nothing

In an admittedly unusual juxtaposition, I turned once again to Maraid's flickr set and chose a 1950s Czechoslovakian matchbox (possibly for the Olympics?) image to illustrate a quote from Shakespeare.

"There was a star danced/and under that was I born" - what nicer sentiment to send your baby out into the world!

Img_0782
I like it, anyway.

I want all the babies I know to be born under dancing stars.

Balls!

I'm not entirely sure what to do with this now.

I have a website nearly finished with its own domain name and everything, where I shall store my quilts and sell them for many millions.

Img_0663

Which means I can do other stuff here.

Img_0670

But then seeing as the 'other stuff' I'm doing right now is drinking wine and eating peanuts, it might end up being as interesting as six consecutive quilts.

We'll see. In the meantime, I like this quilt.

This beaut has actually already been sold, but I loved making it and it feels ssoooooooo soft I wish I were two foot high and could sleep in it right now. I have already sent out emergency alert for more fabric NOW, so hope to have one or two to sell soon.

Flying rabbit is also happily installed in the shop now. Take a look! Buy!

Ballooning reloaded

Done! Although I can't seem to be able to take nice photos, which is a bit of a bummer. Especially if I want to sell them on line.

Which I do. Here. It's all looking a bit barren at the moment, but I'll spruce it up a little, and learn photography, and be a great saleswomen and then a millionaire.

Up and away

It's highly improbable that I have measured the angles right, so I imagine I'll be wielding the scissors again in a bit. I'm also slightly worried I've cut it half size, which would make it an excellent padded handkerchief, but less useful as a quilt.

Umming and ahhing....

My little boy, he is finished! And he is also sold, which is nice. Although he isn't quite what I wanted him to be, and it was a bit rushed, and I am veering wildly between "get in, watch me go" and "Dear God, I expect someone to pay me for this?!"

Img_1212

Although I do like the design, I wanted it to have greater lift (thicker wadding next time) and possibly clouds, or stars, in the background.

Img_1218

But he is what he is, and he is now going forth into the world, to Portugal, no less.

Img_1228

Bon voyage, kiddo!

UPDATE: I did indeed need some stars, and an eye so he can see the way, but now it's nighttime and the photo is crappy. I am happier though, and is he.

quilt manifesto

I dislike patchwork. I find it messy, and am not sure why I'd want to throw together a bunch of mismatching colours when I could choose a few beautiful ones that sing together.

This, of course, means for sure that the next quilt I make will be a patchwork of a thousand colours.

From Amy's blog

I love beautiful images rendered in fabric, the simpler the better. I like the way the texture and warmth of a quality cloth enhances the whole picture.

I want block colours and abstract shapes.

Or alternatively, hundreds of fussy Liberty butterflies.

I want to make beautiful pieces of art that can be used over and over, and that make people's eyes light up.
